“Water is a public property, not for monopoly; it is a human right and governments must guarantee its provision for all citizens fairly.”
The Forum works on ensuring citizens’ rights to equal, adequate and just access to water. It sees resistance of the privatization programs, with all its impacts on the right to water; the accessibility, quality and quantity, particularly for the impoverished and marginalized people. This is based on the fact that “Water is a Right not to be merchandized”.
objectives:
* Protection of the public ownership of water and its just distribution.
* Advocating citizens’ right to access to clean water for drinking and producing food free of charge.
* Empowerment of the most vulnerable groups to preserve and achieve their right to water.
* Theoretical contribution in developing water prospects in the region.
Strategies:
* Promoting the notion and supporting the formation of local forums, in each country, that include interested individuals, community based organizations, experts, and first and foremost the concerned citizens.
* Gathering, forming and developing efforts of supporting the right to water in the Arab countries. It also operates as a mediator between local and international organizations without restrictions on the direct relations.
* Working on ensuring the right to water through regional and international mechanisms, particularly the judicial equity and international declarations.
* Working with similar international bodies to create a mechanism that is general, international, democratic, decentralized, and transparent to be organized in an international assembly representing regional groups and local users.
Work plan:
* The forum does not represent a higher authority and it is composed of local forums that are formed for it.
* The secretary of the forum is consisted of representatives of each country with clear roles if its members based on division of labor.
principles:
* Transparency through a quarterly report narrative and financial on the forum’s website.
* Constituent democracy, where member organizations in local forums choose their representatives in the forum. The secretary to be elected every year and a member shall not exceed two consecutive terms.
* The forum to be committed with the principles, mission and vision of the forum.
